Mrs
Bhogal led an Online Safety assembly on Tuesday 1st November 2022.
She reminded the children of our internet safety rules (see image).
The
children had the opportunity to talk about their online experiences and enjoyed
discussing the different social media sites that they use. We have reminded the
children that they should be aged 13 and over to have their own social media
account.
Mrs
Bhogal will be conducting Safer Internet Day in February where the whole school
will partake in different activities highlighting the importance of Internet
Safety.
This year Diwali
and Bandi Chorr Divas was celebrated across the world on Monday 24th
October 2022.
On Thursday 20th
October, Mrs Bhogal led an assembly all about this festival. She spoke about
the different religions that celebrate Diwali. Bandi Chorr Divas is the Sikh
festival, which falls on the same day as Diwali.
The children were
very interested to find out how it is celebrated and some of our Hindu and Sikh
children were able to share what they do.
Lots of Diwali
activities took place in school, including making clay divas (see photograph).
Inspired by the Nature Club talk in
Collective Worship this morning, a group of 10 children, including the Nature
Club team, decided to spend their playtime litter picking around the school
groups. They were soon busy at working as a team with the litter-pickers.
Look at just how much litter was
collected in a short space of time.
The team told me that they think that
some of the litter may have been blown into the school grounds over the fence
and some may be from outdoor packed lunches.
The team plan to keep an eye out for
litter and ask the outdoor packed lunch people to make sure that their litter
either goes in a bin or back into their lunch box to take home.
Thank you to all of the litter pickers!
On Friday 30th September, a group of Year 4 children,
who were interested in the environment, decided to create a Nature Club and
designed some eye-catching posters in their Golden Time.
They were so passionate about the subject, that Mrs Street asked the children to tell the whole school about their Nature Club in Collective Worship. They asked the children to have a look at their posters, which are displayed around the school, to remind everyone to think about our environment.
Have you ever been to Legoland
and wondered who designs and makes all of the amazing Lego creations?
Well, that’s exactly what the
children at The Queen Anne wondered- so we decided to ask the experts!
On Friday, we welcomed Giorgio and Oscar from the Lego
Design team to The Queen Anne.
The children found out about the
whole design process and what’s involved in the construction of the models.
Giorgio and Oscar said that they
need to use their listening, thinking, reading, writing, maths and art skills
every day. They said that being able to work as part of a team was essential as
they often work on projects with teams all around the world.
As you can imagine, the children
had lots of questions. The children are very excited about the thought of
spotting one of models built by Giorgio and Oscar the next time that they visit
Legoland.
Huge thanks go to Giorgio and Oscar for giving us a glimpse into the life of a Lego Designer and inspiring us to become designers too!
The Queen’s passing marks an important event in history and has special
significance for the people of Windsor.
Thank you to all parents who were able to stay for our short service on
Friday to give thanks for the life of Queen Elizabeth. It marked the start of
the national period of mourning and allowed our school family to spend a few
moments giving thanks and praying together.
This week, the children have spent some time reflecting on the life of
Queen Elizabeth and thinking of the future with King Charles III.
The Queen was firmly of the belief that she had to be seen to be
believed and wore brightly coloured clothes and hats to make sure that she
stood out of the crowd. In memory of The Queen, each child has planted a
colourful spring bulb in the growing bed next to The Quiet Area to represent
The Queen’s hats. As each flower unfurls, it will remind us all of Queen
Elizabeth.
This week, each class will make their own memorial card which will be
placed at Cambridge Gate by a representative from each class. We believe that
the cards and messages left at the gate will become part of a national
collection of remembrance.
All children are taking part in Radio Berkshire’s special project to honour The Queen.
Children across the county have been asked to draw and write any pictures or
messages they wish to share with the Royal Family in memory of the Queen.
These messages and pictures will be drawn on purple hearts which will be
collected up and displayed in Windsor next week so that people can appreciate
the heartfelt thanks and gratitude of the Berkshire school children.
The school will be closed on Monday 19th September to
enable the whole school community to pay their respects to The Queen.
