Grand Designs for Hedgehogs

Following the children’s campaign to help hedgehogs, and the generosity of David Herbert Architects, any passing hedgehogs are now able to stay in 5-star accommodation.

Two beautiful hedgehog hotels, donated by David Herbert Architects, are now in place in the Lost Garden.

Sam Gesell, Extended Schools, who supported the children’s campaign said ‘When you are passionate about something, it is infectious.’

We are all proud of our children’s advocacy on behalf of the hedgehog community and we are all looking forward to hosting our first hedgehog visitors.

Thank you to the children, Sam and David Herbert Architects for making a difference to our world.

Coronation Day

Although we were not able to hold our Coronation Maypole, Morris and Country Dancing Gala due to wet weather, we were still able to mark this special event.

As with all moments of national significance, the school gathered around the flagpole for a whole school assembly this morning.

The school reflected on the promises, which will be made by King Charles in the Coronation Services, and on the Christian belief that the rainbow in the story of Noah is a promise from God that he would never flood the earth again.

Quite a fitting thought with today’s rainbow-filled weather.

The lunch hall was transformed into a riot of red, white and blue for the Coronation lunch. Thank you to the QAPAFA team who decorated the hall as it added to the celebratory feel of our special lunch.

Shouts of ‘God save the King!’ could be heard throughout the school today.

We hope that everyone has a terrific weekend and joyous memories are made.

A New Season

The children are delighted to see that ‘the Queen’s hats’ planted in September in memory of Queen Elizabeth II are now in full bloom. It has been lovely to hear the children reminisce about planting the bulbs for Queen Elizabeth II and delight in spotting their own bloom.

We were touched to receive a thank you card from King Charles this week, thanking the children for the cards and messages sent in sympathy.

It feels fitting to take a moment to reflect on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, as we look forward to our school celebrations to mark the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Easter Service

All Saints Church

Easter Jubilation filled our hearts this week! We all thoroughly enjoyed being together as a school family in church. The children reflected on the Easter story and, on a central table, laid symbols of Easter which included a palm leaf, a jug, some coins, a cloth and a cross.

Thank you to all at All Saints Church for welcoming us for this special service.

We wish everyone a peaceful and joyous Easter.

Good Citizen

Here’s a lovely example of a Queen Anne child being a good citizen.

One of our children noticed that the planters on St Leonard’s Road had fallen into disrepair and set about making a difference.

This weekend, she helped to tidy up the planters with her grandmother. She chose the violas, daffodils and baby pansies and planted them for all to enjoy.

We are all looking forward to seeing the planters in full bloom.

It just goes to show the wonders that can happen when we show kindness and love.

Whole School Forum: Spirituality

Every child in the school has an opportunity to share their views during the Whole School Forum sessions ,which are held each term.

In March, we asked the children to think about Spirituality. Here are some of their thoughtful responses:

Ready, Respectful and Safe

We have launched a new and exciting Behaviour Expectation Rainbow in school whereby children are celebrated if they are spotted being ready, respectful or safe.

We held a competition for children to draw an image to be featured on our Ready, Respectful and Safe poster.

We had lots of amazing entries where children had taken great care with their illustrations.

There could only be three winners but all entries will be displayed in our school hall on a new display board.

Thank you to all of the children who entered this special competition.

The rainbow and poster are displayed in each classroom.

Safer Internet Day

We celebrated Safer Internet Day today by having a whole school assembly and doing activities in class.

The theme this year is ‘Want to talk about it?’ The children shared what they really enjoy and appreciate about the internet:

I like the internet because…

‘I can play games’

‘I can facetime my cousins’

‘I can watch cartoons’

We also talked about what we would do if we saw something that we didn’t like on the internet. The children shared how they would tell a trusted adult if they had that ‘uh-oh’ feeling.

In KS1, we shared the story of ‘Hanni and the Magic Window’

We discussed how the window in the story represented technology. The children reflected on the story by drawing images in their ‘magic windows’ of what they love about the internet.

HELP FOR HEDGEHOGS AND BATS

The children, who attend Stay and Play, found out about the challenges faced by hedgehogs and bats during the colder weather.

The children thought about how they could help. They decided that they could make the school grounds attractive and safe for hedgehogs and bats.

The children wrote letters to Mrs Street asking if the school could provide homes for hedgehogs and bats.

Mrs Street found out that bat boxes require specialist care and may not be suitable for the school site.

However, she thought that homes for hedghogs was a great idea and is looking into ways of funding the Hedgehog Homes.
