Co-curricular Opportunities
Our co-curricular programme is an integral part of an enriched education. It is carefully designed to extend learning beyond the classroom for all, providing pupils with experiences that broaden horizons, deepen understanding and cultivate confidence, curiosity and character. Through a rich blend of educational visits, leadership opportunities, expert teaching and cultural experiences, pupils develop the knowledge and dispositions needed to thrive. These moments, big and small, enrich our curriculum and bring learning to life for our children.
Co-curricular Opportunities 25-26
Enriching Local History
A distinctive feature of our provision is our structured, progressive programme of study linked to Windsor Castle, ensuring that each year group builds knowledge and understanding over time through carefully sequenced experiences.
Reception pupils began their journey with a river voyage along the Thames, gaining their first perspective of Windsor Castle from the water and developing early observational and language skills through rich first-hand experience.
Year 1 pupils explored Windsor Castle as a royal residence, developing their understanding of monarchy and the role of the King through immersive, age-appropriate learning.
Year 2 pupils engaged in historical enquiry, comparing the Great Fire of London with the fire at Windsor Castle, developing early disciplinary thinking around cause, consequence and historical significance.
Year 3 pupils visited St George’s Chapel, deepening their understanding of its architectural, religious and national importance within British heritage.
Year 4 pupils participated in a bespoke study session exploring Windsor Castle’s significance at local, national and global levels, synthesising prior learning and engaging in more abstract historical thinking.
Across all year groups, these experiences ensured that pupils encounter history not as isolated facts, but as a living narrative rooted in place and identity.
Outdoor Learning & Environmental Stewardship
Outdoor learning is a defining strength of our co-curricular offer, fostering curiosity, resilience and a deep respect for the natural world.
We are proud to be a pilot school for the Royal Windsor Flower Show Nature Studies programme, delivered in partnership with Little Muddy Boots. Through weekly outdoor sessions, pupils engaged in planting, growing and observing seasonal change, developing scientific understanding and environmental stewardship through sustained hands-on learning.
This commitment to environmental education was further enriched through:
- A whole-school Education Nature Park mapping initiative, extending learning into the local park and surrounding environment, strengthening pupils’ geographical awareness and connection to place. Year 3 Pupil Ambassador programme, in which pupils worked collaboratively with Soho Parish Primary to introduce Education Nature Park and map both school and church grounds.
- Every class took part in Citizen Science projects, including the R.S.P.B Bird Watch & the Amphibian Society Survey, providing information to support real life research.
- Our Foundation Stage participated in the Royal Windsor Horticultural Flower Show, designing and cultivating a wheelbarrow garden inspired by Rooted in Nature and were awarded a Silver Medal. Alongside entry into the potato growing competition, their work developed early scientific enquiry and responsibility.
Personal Development
Pupil leadership was embedded throughout school life, providing authentic opportunities for responsibility, voice and influence.
Our Wellbeing Champions led assemblies and represented the school at local emotional wellbeing conferences, contributing thoughtfully to wider conversations around mental health and wellbeing in education.
In partnership with the local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), pupils took part in carefully tailored safeguarding and personal development sessions. These include:
- Stranger awareness and personal safety (Year 1 and 2)
- Kindness, respect and positive relationships, including online safety (Year 3 and 4)
In addition, pupils in Years 3 and 4 undertook Bikeability training, developing confidence, independence and essential road safety awareness.
Cultural Opportunities
Our co-curricular programme nurtures creativity, expression and a lifelong love of learning.
Pupils benefit from a termly Book Burst session led by a specialist in children’s literature, who curates engaging, high-quality texts designed to inspire reading for pleasure and broaden literary horizons. Visiting authors further enrich this provision through workshops that illuminate the craft of writing and encourage pupils’ own creative voice.
In the arts, pupils worked with a specialist art practitioner, in Year 2, where they developed and refined their sketchbook skills and a sophisticated understanding of line, shape, tone and form. All teachers developed their sketchbook skills through training.
Musical development was supported through specialist vocal tuition, with pupils performing confidently in both school and community settings. Our Year 3 & Year 4 pupils performed at Windsor Parish Church, strengthening technique, expression and stage presence.
Cultural enrichment was further enhanced through our annual theatre visit. This year our younger children enjoyed a high-quality live performance of The Comet which supported their imaginative storytelling and writing.
Pupils were given regular opportunities to take part in a range of performances, present and reflect on their learning. End-of-year assemblies for Years 1–3 provided a platform to share progress and celebrate achievement with families, while Year 4 culminated their primary journey with a full-scale production demonstrating confidence, creativity and teamwork.
A group of Year 3 pupils took part in a film project produced by Notice Films, developing their creativity, communication skills and confidence. Their work will be showcased at the Windsor Film Festival in September 2027.
Sport, Challenge & Physical Development
Through the Windsor Schools Sports Partnership, pupils access a broad and inclusive programme of sporting festivals and competitions, including benchball tournaments, skipping events and leadership development opportunities. These experiences foster teamwork, resilience and a commitment to personal excellence.
Complementary enrichment includes first aid workshops delivered by the University of Reading, where pupils develop practical life skills through hands-on, memorable learning experiences.
A residential visit for Year 4 to an outdoor adventure centre further develops independence, resilience and collaborative skills through shared challenge and experiential learning.
Science
Our co-curricular programme provides rich opportunities for pupils to explore science through hands-on, real-world experiences.
Foundation Stage pupils developed their early scientific curiosity through direct interaction with farm animals, building an understanding of living things, habitats and care for animals in a meaningful, experiential context.
Year 1 and Year 2 pupils extended this learning through visits to Bocket’s Farm, where they observed animals, explored food production and deepened their understanding of life cycles, seasonal change and the natural environment.
Across the school, scientific thinking was further enriched through an engaging forensic science workshop, where pupils investigated evidence, solved problems and applied logical reasoning in practical, hands-on scenarios.
In addition, pupils experienced memorable encounters with animals and seasonal learning through special visits such as reindeer visiting the school, which provided opportunities for observation, questioning and discussion linked to living things and the natural world.
