Outdoor Learning
At The Queen Anne First School, the natural world is not simply a backdrop to education; it is an integral part of it. Set within beautiful grounds, including pockets of ancient woodland, a wildlife pond, rare tree species and a rich variety of habitats, our outdoor spaces provide an exceptional environment in which children can explore, discover and thrive.
Every outdoor space is thoughtfully used to enrich learning across the curriculum, bringing learning to life through first-hand experiences and enquiry. Our grounds are also a thriving sanctuary for wildlife. Children might spot a family of pheasants on a morning walk, search for stag beetles beneath fallen logs or observe newts and bats in their natural habitats. These moments of discovery nurture curiosity, confidence and a deep sense of connection to the environment.
Our commitment to sustainability and environmental learning has received prestigious recognition. Through Citizen Science projects, participation in Education Nature Park and our involvement in the Royal Windsor Horticultural Society's Nature Studies Pilot, our pupils become young scientists and thoughtful custodians of the natural world.
This dedication has been recognised with the prestigious Dorothy Morley Silver Award for environmental achievement in 2024 and a Silver Award at the Windsor Flower Show for our wheelbarrow, on the theme of Rooted in Nature.
Here children do not simply learn about nature; they learn within it, from it and alongside it.
