COMPUTING INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION & IMPACT

INTENT

We believe that Computing is essential for preparing children for life in a digital world. Through our vision to Enjoy, Include and Achieve, we aim to inspire curiosity, creativity and confidence in using technology safely and effectively.

Our curriculum enables pupils to understand how technology works, to create digital content and to solve problems through computational thinking. Children learn to use technology as responsible digital citizens, developing awareness of how to stay safe online and use technology positively.

We aim for all pupils to:

  • Enjoy exploring and using technology creatively and purposefully.
  • Include everyone by ensuring all children can access and succeed in Computing.
  • Achieve by building secure knowledge and skills in programming, digital literacy and online safety.

IMPLEMENTATION

Computing is taught through a structured and progressive curriculum, based on the National Curriculum and supported by the Oak Academy resources. Learning builds from Reception to Year 4, ensuring clear progression in knowledge, skills and vocabulary.

Pupils develop skills in:

  • Computer science (programming, algorithms and debugging)
  • Information technology (creating and handling digital content)
  • Digital literacy (using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly)

Lessons are practical and engaging, with opportunities to use a range of devices and software. Online safety is taught explicitly and revisited regularly.

Teaching is inclusive and adaptive, ensuring all pupils are supported and challenged. Where possible, computing is linked to real-life contexts to make learning meaningful and relevant.

IMPACT

By the end of Year 4, pupils have the knowledge and confidence to use technology safely and effectively. They can design, write and debug simple programs, create and present digital content and explain how to stay safe online.

Pupils leave The Queen Anne as confident, responsible users of technology who are well-prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in a digital world,
