ART INTENT, IMPLEMENTATION & IMPACT

INTENT

At The Queen Anne, we believe that every child is an artist. Through our vision of Enjoy, Include and Achieve, we inspire children to develop a love of art and creativity and to see themselves as confident artists.

Our curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to explore a wide range of materials, techniques and ideas through drawing, painting, sculpture and other art forms. Children are encouraged to express their ideas, experiences and imagination, recognising that the creative process is just as important as the finished artwork.

Using sketchbooks, nature and our school grounds as inspiration, pupils develop their understanding of colour, pattern, texture, line, shape and form. They study a diverse range of artists, craftspeople and designers, helping them to appreciate art from different cultures and periods and understand its importance in the wider world.

IMPLEMENTATION

Art is taught through a carefully sequenced curriculum based on the Oak Academy Curriculum and National Gallery's Take One Picture resources. Lessons build knowledge and skills progressively from Reception to Year 4 and provide opportunities for children to create, reflect, discuss and refine their ideas.

Pupils experience a broad range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, textiles and sculpture. Sketchbooks are used throughout the curriculum to explore ideas, record observations and develop reflective artistic practice.

Our teaching is inclusive and adaptive, ensuring that all children are supported and challenged to succeed. We encourage collaboration, creativity and independence and regularly use our school grounds and the natural environment to inspire and enrich learning.

IMPACT

By the end of Year 4, our pupils have developed the knowledge, skills and confidence to think and work as artists. They can use a range of materials and techniques, talk about their learning using artistic vocabulary and reflect on and evaluate their own work and the work of others.

Children leave The Queen Anne with an appreciation of art, artists and creativity, a sense of pride in their achievements and the confidence to continue their artistic journey.
